During a recent soul reading session, I connected with a client’s deceased grandmother. What followed was a deeply moving experience that offered a rare glimpse into the world of someone living with Alzheimer’s dementia. This connection revealed not only the emotional and mental challenges faced by those with this condition but also the enduring spirit that remains despite the disease’s progression.
This post shares the insights I received during that reading, aiming to shed light on the lived experience of Alzheimer’s dementia from a unique perspective. It offers understanding and compassion for those affected and their loved ones who are grieving.
Understanding Alzheimer’s Dementia from the Other Side
Alzheimer’s dementia is often described through clinical symptoms: memory loss, confusion, difficulty with language, and changes in behavior. But hearing about it directly from someone who experienced it adds a new dimension.
The grandmother that came through wanted the chance to explain her experience because so many of her loved ones were left wondering what was going on in her mind as she faded away. She described her experience like being in outerspace. Her entire head was within an astronaut helmet that, upon my research, is called the Apollo pressure helmet. She felt very far away, disorientated yet fully present like her core self remained intact. She described it as a very contradictory experience because although she was present she couldn't connect in present time even though she wanted to. The soul reading revealed that the essence of a person with Alzheimer’s is still present, even when memories fade and the connection seems severed.
The importance of learning about diseases from those who have passed
Although my mediumship work over the years has included many conversations with those who have passed, it hit me differently this time around because not only was this beautiful soul sharing her experience as a gift to her family who was grieving, but I had a feeling at the time that this information was important for more than my client...I just didn't understand how yet.
This morning I reached out to an acquaintance who I don't talk to much but had been thinking and dreaming about. As we had a text exchange I inquired about how her Mom was doing, having learned a few months back she was put into a memory care facility with dementia. As I wrote those words, "How is your Mom?", I realized that perhaps this is where the lesson of healing continues.
The shared experience is that the loved one with dementia is far away, gone, memory erased. And while that may be true from a pathological perspective, what remains is the unspoken language, the language of our soul. The potent lesson from the deceased grandmother is they really are still present and while language as we know it is a barrier and the memory loss is a barrier, the unspoken language endures. The love she felt from family holding her hands is an example of this.
The unspoken language is my passion. It is how we speak to the animals beyond our commands of sit, stay and come. It is how we connect to our loved ones who have passed. It is the language of souls and it transcends time and space.

The Importance of Compassion and Understanding
The soul reading reinforced that Alzheimer’s dementia is not just a medical condition but a deeply human experience. Compassion, understanding and the unspoken language we emit from our being are essential to easing the journey for those affected. Send love with your eyes. Communicate connection from your mind. Emit thoughts and feelings with intention, love, and joy.
The grandmother’s voice reminded me that even when words fail, love and presence speak volumes. I urge families to cherish the moments they have and to remember that the person they love is still there, beneath the layers of the disease.
How This Experience Can Change Our Perspective
Connecting with someone who lived with Alzheimer’s dementia beyond this life challenges common perceptions. It encourages us to see beyond the symptoms and recognize the enduring spirit within.
This perspective can inspire more empathy in how we treat people with dementia and support their families by offering hope. It also highlights the value of spiritual and emotional connections in healing and caregiving.
I have continually asked the question about why I do this work. It is always very healing for someone to connect with a loved one who has passed. But what about my work in teaching others the art of the unspoken language. Why is it important? This particular soul reading gave me the answer or at least one reason. It's important because it keeps us connected to the deeper quality of our human experience, that which is unspoken.
Final Thoughts
This soul reading offered a rare and valuable insight into Alzheimer’s dementia from the viewpoint of someone who experienced it firsthand. It revealed the emotional struggles and the deep need for love and patience.
For anyone caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s dementia, these messages serve as a reminder to focus on connection, compassion, and presence. The disease may change memories, but it does not erase the soul.
If you are supporting someone with Alzheimer’s dementia, consider how you can create moments of comfort and joy by listening and speaking with the voice of your heart, rather than grief, sadness and longing for what was and remember that beneath the challenges, the person you love remains.
